What is a power flush?
It is a deep and thorough cleanse of your central heating system. Chemicals are used in conjunction with a power flush machine which is attached to your central heating pipework. The gunk is then flushed out, leaving you with a clean system with clearer running water.
Why do you need a power flush?
Central heating systems can get a build up of sludge and debris over time. This will have a negative affect on: the efficiency of your boiler (which will need to work extra hard to produce your heating); your radiators which may get clogged and not heat properly; your household bills (due to excessive work required to get hot water around your system).
When do you need a power flush?
- slow heating of radiators
- cold patches on radiators
- excessively noisy boiler or heating pump
- dirty water when bleeding radiators
- after a new boiler installation
There are also preventative measures if your system is currently clean and you want to keep it that way!
Call us anytime to arrange your Power flush which can all be completed within a day. Take a look at what gunk we might find in your system, and the beautifully clean result when we're finished!
Your boiler may show an error code indicating a frozen condensate pipe. If this is suspected, you may be able to help yourself by following the steps below. If you are unsure, we advise you contact a competent engineer.
If this doesn't not solve the error code or noisy boiler, then you've done your best and need to call us!
Hope this helps!
On 26th September 2015 a new Energy related Product (ErP) directive from the EU came into force.
The ErP directive was put in place to ensure that the EU achieves its target to reduce energy use by 20% by 2020. It is also designed to increase the share of renewable energies by 20%. This means that all space and water heaters meet the minimum energy efficiency requirements and their energy efficiency will be clearly labeled.
Boiler manufacturer such as Worcester, baxi, Vaillant and Ideal have brought out their new, ErP rated products to meet the minimum requirements. For a while at least, this means that boiler prices have increased, however we have high hopes that over time they will level off.
Low-rated water heating products (such as those which might be rated in bands F or G) will not be permitted under the new directive.
For more information on the ErP Directive, please visit https://www.gov.uk/guidance/placing-energy-related-products-on-the-uk-market
Plumbminto’s Gas Safe Engineers are all trained to install these new ErP boilers and can help advise you on the most energy efficient and cost-effective solutions. Call anytime to enquire!

YES you can find a cheaper plumber!
YES you can find a plumber who works faster!
BUT YES...... you also get what you pay for!
Even with all the qualifications in the world, nothing will beat real life experience. What are some of the things that can go wrong with a cheap service?
Tiles that look great on the outside but in 6 months' time you get this:
A shower that works fantastically and in 4 week's time you discover the pipework behind was shoddy and you have retile the entire enclosure due to a severe leak.
A radiator that works fine at first but due to poor installation is caused the pressure in your system to drop considerably raising your gas bills to rise and rise each month.
Visible pipework that looks wonderful on the surface but when you lift the floorboards or look behind units you see a bodge job that will cost you hundreds of pounds to rectify.
You may have a shiny, new toilet, sink or basin, but it's been connected to an old pipe that will not be sustainable and ultimately the job will need to be twice, costing you double the money and a whole load of hassle!
...and of course there are always the cowboy plumbers who charge a cheap fee to get a foot in your door, and then either create a problem from nothing and wildy overcharge you to fix it, or point out a variety of non-issues that through scare tactics you feel compelled to hire them to fix.
THIS IS NOT ALWAYS THE CASE!!!
Just please make sure you choose a plumber for their quality of work, and not just the cheapest price. Plumbminto's Plumbers are fundamentally against over charging or recommending works that is not necessary. Contact us if you want an honest service from reputable and experienced plumbers.
Wondering why your water bills are so high? There are a variety of ways you could save yourself money on water bills, all of which are worth considering:
1) Is there a leak somewhere? Even a very slow drip from an old tap can add up to litres of water across the space of a year. Perhaps a washer has gone soft or your taps aren't tight enough. Take a dry tissue and run it around the tap fittings in your property, and around the joints in the pipes underneath, to determine if you have a slow leak somewhere. If you do find a leak, or are concerned about an old set of taps or pipework, contact Plumbminto's Plumbers to arrange a fix or replacement. This could lower your water bills instantly.
2) Consider installing a water meter. Around 40% of Britains have a water enter installed in their property. Sometimes this means you cannot be frivolous with your water usage, but for those of you who are conscientious about leaving the water running, or not refilling the paddling pool everyday, or who turn off the tap between dishes, then you should get the benefits of a water meter. Why pay the same water bills as your wasteful neighbour when you could be saving on yours? Just call up your water mains provider and ask then to install a water meter for your proper and you could save money on your water bills that way.
3) You could change your toilet unit. Older style toilets have cisterns that release its full capacity of water with every flush. Sometimes the old style cisterns have a larger than necessary capacity and there’s nothing you can do to decrease that. Consider installing a dual flush toilet that will ensure you only release the amount of water you require for each use. You could save significant money off your water bills if you only use half the amount of water when you and your family/colleagues use the toilet. For a selection of eco-friendly toilets and a reliable plumber to install it, contact Plumbminto’s Plumbers anytime.
4) Change your habits. These are simple ways to save water bit by bit, which all add up to saving money off your water bill:
a) If it’s yellow, let it mellow. If it’s brown, flush it down! Not for everybody but if you can stand to save a flush for the next visit, do so.
b) Save your dirty dishes for one big wash and don’t leave the tap running unnecessarily.
c) Shower instead of bath. A long, soak in a warm bath should be saved for those occasions you really need to relax. Take a brief shower daily.
d) While you wait for your water stream to run warm, fill up a bottle or two and water the plants with it.
Just a few, not-so-silly ways you could save money off your water bills and feel proud to be helping our environment in the process.
If you have a small bathroom, or an en-suite that needs updating, here are few ideas to get you started:

3. Basin and Toilet 2-in-1
The toilet which uses the wear from the basin to flush, is not only an incredible space saver, but is also an excellent way to save water usage thereby lowering water bills and helping the environment. Perfect for under stairs WCs!
4. Corner Baths.
OK, you may not be able to fully stretch yourself out in one of these, however you can still have a relaxing soak or bathe the kids all in a small bathroom. As a great alternative to a shower alone, you could even fit a shower overhead to get the best of both worlds!

Limescale buildup inside your central heating pipes is always bad news! British Water estimates that just 1.5mm of limescale accumulation can increase a heating system's general energy requirement by up to 12%.
Why? Because the reduced diameter inside the pipe means your boiler will have to pump more water for the same effect . Limescale also acts as extra insulations therefore your boiler will have to run hotter for longer to produce the ideal output.
What does this mean? Pumps working harder and boilers running hotter for longer means unnecessary overuse, causing higher energy bills, boiler breakdown, subsequent call-outs and even potential boiler replacement.
What can be done? Heavily blocked pipes will need to be replaced. Plumbminto's plumbers in Wimbledon are perfectionist pipe fitters so Call us if you need a quote for this. Of course prevention is always better than a cure, so a good water treatment will be very effective. You could add a water softener to your system to soften the limescale amounts, however this can be costly to upkeep with replacement salts and water wastage. An excellent solution is an installation of an electrolytic device which introduces tiny quantities of zinc into your water via a zinc anode and copper cathode. The zinc holds the calcium carbonate which causes limescale build up, and rather than hard, stubborn chunks of limescale being found on a shower head or kettle, you may only find a light, powdery residue.
These units are very easy to fit and not costly in labour time. Call us now if you want to prevent inevitable limescale build up by installing an electrolytic device.
Worcester, Bosch Group has launched the latest gas-fired combi boiler to join its market leading range.
The Greenstar i boasts enhanced performance and A-rated annual efficiency, alongside a host of features which make it optimised for social housing schemes.
Improving on the popular features of the Greenstar i Junior which remains the UK’s best-selling condensing boiler, the new model is available in combi outputs of 25kW and 30kW, and has been developed to deliver improved water performance in small to medium sized properties with one bathroom.
To streamline servicing and maintenance, a number of changes have been made to the internal components. The fan can now be removed for cleaning purposes without the seal on the combustion chamber being disturbed and subsequently require replacement, while the expansion vessel can be removed and replaced without needing to take the boiler off the wall mounting jig to do so. This makes is easier for us servicing engineers to annually service your boiler.
The Heatronic control panel showcases an all-improved interface, with text descriptions or error codes which are communicated through the enhanced control panel, making it simple for tenants to use. Additionally, the Basic adjust mode, which offers ‘lockable’ end user controls, prevents accidental adjustments when the boiler is insitu and consequently, costly call outs are easily avoided.
In response to the challenge posed by frozen condensate in the winter months, the Greenstar i has been engineered to contain a larger condensate siphon – ensuring an uninsulated, externally routed condensate pipe connected to the new boiler will not freeze in sustained temperatures of -15°C for up to 48 hours.
The Greenstar i is also available in a range of system variants, of 9, 12, 15, 18, 21 and 24 kW, enabling installers to provide precise sizes dependent on a property’s needs. The compact design also ensures the boiler’s suitability for a variety of locations including kitchens, utility rooms, bathrooms, and airing cupboards.
