Wondering why your water bills are so high? There are a variety of ways you could save yourself money on water bills, all of which are worth considering:

1) Is there a leak somewhere? Even a very slow drip from an old tap can add up to litres of water across the space of a year. Perhaps a washer has gone soft or your taps aren't tight enough. Take a dry tissue and run it around the tap fittings in your property, and around the joints in the pipes underneath, to determine if you have a slow leak somewhere. If you do find a leak, or are concerned about an old set of taps or pipework, contact Plumbminto's Plumbers to arrange a fix or replacement. This could lower your water bills instantly.

2) Consider installing a water meter. Around 40% of Britains have a water enter installed in their property. Sometimes this means you cannot be frivolous with your water usage, but for those of you who are conscientious about leaving the water running, or not refilling the paddling pool everyday, or who turn off the tap between dishes, then you should get the benefits of a water meter. Why pay the same water bills as your wasteful neighbour when you could be saving on yours? Just call up your water mains provider and ask then to install a water meter for your proper and you could save money on your water bills that way.

3) You could change your toilet unit. Older style toilets have cisterns that release its full capacity of water with every flush. Sometimes the old style cisterns have a larger than necessary capacity and there’s nothing you can do to decrease that. Consider installing a dual flush toilet that will ensure you only release the amount of water you require for each use. You could save significant money off your water bills if you only use half the amount of water when you and your family/colleagues use the toilet. For a selection of eco-friendly toilets and a reliable plumber to install it, contact Plumbminto’s Plumbers anytime.

4) Change your habits. These are simple ways to save water bit by bit, which all add up to saving money off your water bill:

a)  If it’s yellow, let it mellow. If it’s brown, flush it down! Not for everybody but if you can stand to save a flush for the next visit, do so.

b)  Save your dirty dishes for one big wash and don’t leave the tap running unnecessarily.

c)  Shower instead of bath. A long, soak in a warm bath should be saved for those occasions you really need to relax. Take a brief shower daily.

d)  While you wait for your water stream to run warm, fill up a bottle or two and water the plants with it.

Just a few, not-so-silly ways you could save money off your water bills and feel proud to be helping our environment in the process.
