On 26th September 2015 a new Energy related Product (ErP) directive from the EU came into force.
The ErP directive was put in place to ensure that the EU achieves its target to reduce energy use by 20% by 2020. It is also designed to increase the share of renewable energies by 20%. This means that all space and water heaters meet the minimum energy efficiency requirements and their energy efficiency will be clearly labeled. Boiler manufacturer such as Worcester, baxi, Vaillant and Ideal have brought out their new, ErP rated products to meet the minimum requirements. For a while at least, this means that boiler prices have increased, however we have high hopes that over time they will level off. Low-rated water heating products (such as those which might be rated in bands F or G) will not be permitted under the new directive.
